Corn on the Blog: Thursday

Car companies seem to be digging on E85 SUVs. Maybe not the most environmentally friendly or fuel efficient option, but at least they're using less gas. Check out Nissan's new ethanol-capable vehicle.

You can even rock the ethanol in old school rides. Here's advice on converting classic cars to E85 .

Local folks are talking about new E85 stations in Michigan, sponsored by Meijer stores and GM.

Alternative Investments - Hedge Fund Manager, Joseph Di Virgilio

It's time for a change.
I have been investing in fossil fuels only to capitalize on the scarce availability of the above, for which I believe there's tremendous upside for the next 15 years.
I firmly believe this holds true with respect to commodities, alternative energy technology such as Ethanol, methane gas production from Rubbish, Wind and Solar power, as well as Hydropower and Hydrogen and foreign automobile manufacturers.

I would like for you to consider the following stats and draw your own conclusions:

1) Hybrid Sales jumped 141% from 2004 to 2005

2) 97% of US transportation Industry depends on Oil.

3) Germany derives 7% of its energy from Wind Power

4) The US Automobile/Automotive industry uses 14 Million Barrel of Oil per Day

5) USA Accounts for approx 4 1/2 % of the world's population but consumes 1/3 of the world's oil production.

6) 1/2 Of the fuel used in Brazil is Ethanol

7) 100% Tariff is applied to ethanol being imported into the USA

8) Wind Power could supply roughly 30-40% of the US energy needs if totally exploited

9) Americans drive 3 Trillion Miles per year

10) Oil/ Fossil Fuel creates a greenhouse effect thus global warming.

11) Asia and Europe are heavily investing in clean energy while the US is NOT.

12) Ford and GM are closing facilities and laying off workers while Toyota had one of the best earning years ever thanks to Hybrid Sales

13) American only now started to have crisis mentality .. while most European and Asian countries always have.
