E85 Hummer!

|

Homebrewed ethanol-fueled Hummer!?! Alex Conger has figured out a way to not just convert his H2 to run on ethanol, he fills up with fuel in his own backyard. Oh, and E85 isn't good enough for him. He rolls with a special blend of E98 that he has found to give him the best mix of gas mileage and horsepower. He taught us all about it, and let us know it's possible to brew up to 3 gallons of your own fuel per hour in your own backyard!

Alex plastered a "Kick the Oil Habit" bumper sticker on his car to go along with his ethanol endorsements. He calls his Hummer his "billboard on wheels" and uses it to advertise his Idaho-based company that helps people convert their cars to run on ethanol.

Check out those wheels!

Finally a Hummer that

Finally a Hummer that doesn't make me angry! What a great idea!
REally enjoying all that you are finding (and not finding) on the Road Trip!

That's pretty dope..

... but it still doesn't get good gas mileage I'm guessing? But who cares right? It's better for the environment!

E85 huh, IT's Still Ugly as all Hell

Instead of taking a crappy invention and trying to make it better by having it run on E85, why not invest your time and money into making hybrids do something better or work on plugins. Hummer's are by far the worst SUV, because they have no off road function at all. As soon as you take em off road they fall apart. I won't be happy till I see someone make an electric Hummer, or one that runs on hydrogen. A zero emission Hummer is perfectly fine with me if idiots want to buy it.

Hey Alex

Glad to see you here at this blog !! Thank you for you assistance on the install of my 4 cylinder Toyota. I knew you were onto somthing big. My 93 camry runs great on E85.
since the convesion I have not used straight gasoline.I will be calling you soon for info on the still company so I can make my own.

Hydrogen? Electric?

Hydrogen cars are a great concept. Hydrogen will be the fuel of the future. We have some problems at this time with hydrogen. In order to remove the H (Hydrogen gases) from H20 It will take alot of energy and the only source of energy we have that is feesible would be solar. Solar energy is also a great alternative but the problem we have with solar power is that the production and material costs are far too high at this time for mass production!
Electric cars wow what a concept I thought that was a great Idea as well until I found out the amount of electricity it would take to power all the cars on the road today. In short we would have to burn more coal to produce more electricity and only add to pollution.
Ethanol makes sense. Ethanol has up to 70% less pollutants than gasoline and can be made at your home.Ethanol brings many jobs to the industry and will help our American economy in so many different ways.
I signed in as anonymous but if I say Ethanol will bring us back to eating apple pie, you will probably know who I am and what I do!!!

hang on...

Electric cars would use too much electricity but hydrogen cars wouldn't? Despite hydrogen being a pretty inefficient way of storing energy?

And to the guy up there somewhere, GM made a hydrogen hummer.

Really...

Not only are you stating old arguments for the technology, but your assertions are wayyyy off base.

As far as hydrogen goes, companies are actually producing right now, products where you poor water into a little station and a catalyst starts the reaction of breaking up the water into hydrogen. Essentially what you have is a little hydrogen powered station that you can plug small objects into. So while it does require a lot of energy, scientists and engineers are finding ways of tapping into this potential source. And companies, namely GM, have already started created automobiles that use hydrogen. Berlin is planning to have 250 hydrogen buses for transportation by 2009.

About four years ago the state of California did a study to find out just how feasible electric cars are. What they concluded by doing number crunching mainly was that even if everyone one in the state of California drove an electric car, the amount of pollution by coal power plants would still be less, then the pollution of everyone driving a car. While I do like ethanol, because it pollutes less and from the time the plant is grown for production of ethanol to the time it is pumped from a station everything can be kept in the US, it still pollutes and is, in the long run, a bad solution to keeping our environment sustainable. But don't get me wrong, if I had to choose only between two sources of energy, I would take ethanol over gasoline any day.

How did you do it?

Dear Alex Conger,
In which way did you convert your Hummer to run on Ethanol?
At what expense? how much time did it take? Can any car be converted?

How I did it!

Dear anonymous,

It was very simple conversion I simply installed a fuel injector pulse width modulator..The unit I sell is called Fullflex cost me About 700.00 dollars and that included an oil change with mobil 1 synthetic and the Fullflex unit. This took me Exactly 15 minutes to plug in. My fuel injectors are visible and accessible. Some cars have injectors that are not easily accessible and may need a mechanic to assit. My partner on the east coast is currently selling units on ebay at wholesale prices check it out www.fullflexgold.com

ok

Any links to these companies who produce 'hydrogen powered station'?

If something takes more energy to produce than it contians it is not a good fuel/energy storage medium. That's simple science.

If you can show me a way to produce hydrogen that uses less energy than the hydrogen contains then I would be very happy.

Absolutely, ethanol is the truth now.

Ask that to Neil Young, he has the hummer that is run on alternative biodiesel.
